Critical Role’s ensemble cast continues to leave its mark on the expansive world of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. During a panel discussion at the recent New York Comic Con, Square Enix unveiled that Marisha Ray would lend her voice talents to an updated rendition of Shiva for the third installment of the highly anticipated remake series. Ray will be collaborating with her Critical Role colleagues, including Matt Mercer, who portrays Vincent Valentine, and Travis Willingham, stepping into the iconic role of Sephiroth, previously voiced by Tyler Hoechlin.
Fans can catch a glimpse of Ray’s contribution to Revelation through a clip shared by Square Enix on Instagram. This preview introduces Polydroid Shiva, a digital interpretation of the renowned ice summon, distinct from her in-combat manifestation. Polydroid Shiva appears to oversee the snowboarding mini-game at the Gold Saucer, confirming the return of this beloved feature from the 1997 original. The footage also highlights Polydroid Shiva encouraging Vincent to showcase his snowboarding prowess. The natural rapport between Ray and Mercer, who are married in real life, was evident. Mercer humorously shared during the panel his initial concern about potential nepotism regarding Ray’s casting, only to discover that the development team was unaware of their marital connection. He proudly declared, “That’s right, you earned that, baby,” to Ray, who was present in the audience.
The New York Comic Con panel largely centered on the game's voice cast and their experiences concluding work on the trilogy. Another video released by Square Enix provides a behind-the-scenes look at the final recording sessions for the game, featuring Briana White and Britt Baron, the voices of Aerith and Tifa, respectively, visibly moved to tears. Baron described her role as “the role of a lifetime.” The highly anticipated conclusion to the trilogy promises an equally profound emotional journey for players. Square Enix has been known to diverge from the original game’s narrative, and the team remains tight-lipped about any potential plot twists. Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is scheduled for release on April 8, 2027.
This ongoing narrative journey, enriched by the talent and passion of its creators, symbolizes the power of collaborative storytelling and artistic dedication. The convergence of established voice actors with a beloved franchise not only elevates the gaming experience but also fosters a deeper connection between players and the characters they cherish. It reinforces the idea that true creativity flourishes when diverse talents unite to bring a shared vision to life, promising an unforgettable adventure for fans worldwide.
