Valheim's official 1.0 release, following five years in early access, brought with it a host of new features, including a final biome, a formidable boss, an array of fresh weaponry, armor, and creatures, alongside more than 50 achievements. Initially, these accolades were inaccessible to players who utilized in-game console commands to enable cheats.
However, recent updates have changed this for Steam users. Two new patches for Valheim address several bugs and introduce a significant modification to the achievement system. According to developer Iron Gate, a new function allows players to opt into achievements even if they have previously used developer commands. The developers stated, “We will leave it to your own judgment whether or not to activate this function—Oden will surely know if you use it dishonorably.” This new command, specifically for Steam, is humorously titled: 'yesiuseddevcommandsbutiwantmyachievementsanyway'. For those unfamiliar with Valheim's cheat system, a comprehensive guide to console commands, updated for version 1.0, details how to spawn materials, weapons, food, and other items from the new Deep North region, now accessible without compromising achievement progress.
Beyond the achievement system, the patches also bring practical improvements. Players can now mend their Deep North armor, a welcome change, though the ability to clear snow by punching it has been removed, requiring players to craft a shovel instead. Furthermore, a previously identified issue where the new timberwood drawbridges were too narrow to accommodate carts—a significant design flaw for a bridge—has been rectified in this update. These comprehensive updates ensure a more balanced and enjoyable experience for all players.
This innovative approach to in-game achievements, allowing players to utilize development tools without sacrificing recognition for their progress, promotes a more inclusive gaming environment. It acknowledges diverse playstyles while upholding a sense of integrity, fostering continued engagement and enjoyment within the gaming community.
