To commence the "In the Name of the Father" mission in The Blood of Dawnwalker, adventurers must journey to the Svartrau Cathedral, located on the eastern side of Svartrau City, during daylight hours. Upon their initial entry, they will encounter Father Florin engaged in a baptism ceremony. He will approach and engage in conversation, posing several inquiries. Regardless of other responses, it is imperative to consent to his offer of confession, a ritual that consumes one segment of in-game time.
During the confession, participants are required to acknowledge all transgressions, encompassing wrath, envy, and gluttony. When Father Florin extends an offer of additional counsel, it is crucial to respond with, "tell me more." This specific interaction will trigger the commencement of the "In the Name of the Father" quest. To advance further, players must then proceed to Father Florin's residence, situated on the western side of Svartrau City. Access is gained by following the road north from the West Gate, where a mendicant will invite entry.
Should players fail to provide the correct responses or opt against visiting the cathedral, an alternative method exists to initiate "In the Name of the Father." One can still begin the quest by directly locating Father Florin's hidden abode. This location is identical to the one previously described; however, in the absence of a quest marker, players must independently find the entrance. Utilizing a focused perception mode can aid in its discovery. Upon arriving, one must knock on the door and overcome any mendicants who resist, as they will not yield to persuasion.
Players are encouraged to thoroughly investigate every chamber within the dwelling to gather additional intelligence regarding Father Florin's activities. Once prepared, descend through the aperture in the southern room on the ground floor. Continue onward through the subterranean passages until Father Florin is encountered delivering a sermon. Regardless of how one arrived, whether by invitation or force, Father Florin will solicit aid. Three distinct options are presented:
Irrespective of the method by which it was obtained, the ancient key is used to unlock the northern portal, leading into the ancient ruins and initiating the trial. This marks the conclusion of "In the Name of the Father" and the commencement of "A Hero's End." Players are advised that the trial presents a considerable challenge, making it prudent to wait until reaching approximately level 15. A nearby shrine offers the opportunity to enhance abilities and adjust the time of day.
Upon readiness, venture into the ancient ruins and vanquish the undead adversaries encountered. The chosen path within the ruins is inconsequential; however, after defeating the Ancient Guardian in the initial circular chamber, proceeding left will reveal insights into the fates of Father Florin's prior "heroes." Traverse the doorway emanating a crimson glow and overcome Rigoz, The Betrayed Hero, to conclude the trial. This encounter resembles a standard wraith battle but is significantly more perilous. When Rigoz attempts to recuperate, it is essential to interrupt their healing process through offensive actions. Following the confrontation, open the sarcophagus at the chamber's end to procure the Ancient Hero's Armour, a golden brooch, and the formula for Potent Balm of Fortitude.
Exit through the breach in the wall and search the fallen for a key. Ascend the stairs to discover a direct route back to Father Florin. If he was spared and assistance was initially refused, an alliance can still be forged at this juncture. Should an alliance with Father Florin be established in The Blood of Dawnwalker, whether before or after the trial, he will provide a clandestine entry point into Greifberg Castle. This offers a significant advantage, bypassing formidable adversaries guarding the main entrance and allowing nearly direct access to the central edifice. This act triggers the quest "A Lone Wolf's Hunt," leading to the ultimate confrontation with Brencis.
