Approximately one year ago, on November 12, 2025, Sony introduced 'Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble' to the gaming community. Designed as a multiplayer shooter for both Android and iOS platforms, the game's reception was, at best, a mix of opinions. Following its initial reveal, Sony conducted a soft launch in various regions, including a recent expansion to the United Kingdom in August. Despite previous intentions to roll out the game globally, the company has now chosen to reverse its course, leading to the game's impending cessation.
In a heartfelt statement posted on the official 'Ranger Rumble' website, the development team extended their gratitude to the dedicated community. The message expressed appreciation for the players' invaluable support, their active participation, feedback, and contributions that helped shape the game throughout its development phase. This acknowledgment underscores the significant role players often play in the lifecycle of a game, even one that ultimately faces discontinuation.
'Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble' is slated to receive its final update this Friday. Following this, it will be completely removed from both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store on November 21st. The game's servers are scheduled for a permanent shutdown on May 1, 2027, at which point the game will become inaccessible and unplayable. The 'Ranger Rumble' website provides a comprehensive FAQ section, detailing how this shutdown will affect in-game rewards, season passes, and any in-game currency that players may possess.
The 'Ratchet & Clank' franchise, a creation of Insomniac Games in 2002, is renowned for its iconic characters and engaging gameplay. Insomniac Games, now more widely recognized for its contributions to Marvel-themed games such as 'Marvel's Wolverine' (released in September), most recently delivered the critically acclaimed 'Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart' in 2021. While Insomniac has not officially announced any new 'Ratchet & Clank' titles, a security breach in 2023 and subsequent data leaks suggested that the studio might have been developing a sequel to 'Rift Apart'. However, no official plans or announcements have been made since these revelations, leaving the future of the console series in anticipation.
