The Sharjah International Film Festival for Children and Youth (SIFF) has forged a pivotal alliance with the United Arab Emirates' National Media Authority. This collaboration marks a significant stride towards cultivating a thriving and enduring ecosystem for new cinematic talents. The partnership, formalized on the inaugural day of SIFF's 13th edition, spans critical areas such as film screening protocols, comprehensive training programs, and essential technical support. This strategic memorandum of understanding unites national efforts to bolster the regional film sector, enabling aspiring filmmakers to translate their innovative concepts into impactful cinematic creations.

Boosting Emerging Talent: A Strategic Alliance

The Sharjah International Film Festival for Children and Youth (SIFF) has officially partnered with the UAE's National Media Authority. This collaboration aims to foster a more robust and sustainable environment for budding filmmakers, focusing on practical support from film screening procedures to technical assistance. The agreement, signed on SIFF's opening day, signifies a commitment to streamlining regulatory processes and strengthening the film industry's infrastructure, ensuring young talents can transform their creative visions into cinematic realities within the region.

This strategic alliance underscores SIFF's expanded mission beyond traditional screenings and workshops, addressing the significant logistical challenges faced by emerging filmmakers. Sheikha Jawaher bint Abdullah Al Qasimi, director of SIFF, emphasized that film creation is merely one facet of a broader journey. The partnership with the National Media Authority reflects a shared dedication to integrating and enhancing national initiatives that support the burgeoning film industry. This includes facilitating necessary permits for film screenings and coordinating with various governmental and cultural bodies to ensure smooth operations. Furthermore, festival teams will benefit from specialized training on the Authority's electronic services, designed to streamline regulatory compliance and technical support. This comprehensive approach is set to empower a new generation of storytellers, providing them with the practical tools and infrastructure needed to succeed in the dynamic world of cinema.

Streamlining the Media Landscape and Future Vision

The new agreement addresses another piece of that infrastructure. The National Media Authority will help facilitate permits required to screen participating films, coordinating, where necessary, with embassies, consulates, cultural organizations and government entities. Festival teams will also receive training on the authority’s electronic services and technical support intended to streamline regulatory procedures.

This collaboration arrives at a time when the UAE's media sector is undergoing substantial reorganization. The National Media Authority, established by a federal decree in December 2025, has consolidated the responsibilities previously held by various entities, including the UAE Media Council, National Media Office, and Emirates News Agency. This centralized body now oversees media policy, legislation, licensing, and content standards, reflecting a unified vision for media development. Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Secretary-General of the National Media Authority, highlighted the strategic importance of supporting content tailored for children and youth, aligning with the national goal of fostering a competitive and sustainable media landscape. For FANN, the organization behind SIFF, this partnership integrates a federal institution into its broader ecosystem, which aims to connect filmmakers with producers, funders, and supporters through initiatives like the Industry Hub and pitching programs, thereby facilitating long-term collaborations and production financing. Additionally, representatives from the National Media Authority will actively participate in festival juries and film evaluations, further strengthening the synergy between the two organizations and enhancing SIFF's media and communication efforts.
