Unlike the traditional notion of models conforming to a singular aesthetic, today's fashion industry celebrates personal expression. River Klein, a vibrant 18-year-old New Yorker, embodies this new era. Her journey began at just 14 when she was discovered by Heroes Model Management while casually shopping in Soho. Since then, her career has blossomed, marked by a packed schedule that includes walking for prominent brands like Coach and Ami Paris for their Spring 2027 collections, and starring in campaigns for Calvin Klein and Polo Ralph Lauren.
Beyond her impressive resume, Klein's personal style sets her apart. She describes her aesthetic as a compelling blend of 'messy' and '90s influences. Her wardrobe is a treasure trove of vintage designer pieces, from cherished Chloé Paddington bags and luxurious fuzzy Chanels to classic vintage tees and an exquisite collection of footwear, ranging from sophisticated leather clogs to cozy shearling boots. This eclectic mix reflects a dynamic approach to fashion that evolves daily, making her a true style icon both on and off the runway.
Klein's career is dotted with significant achievements and unforgettable experiences. She recounts her first runway show, an exclusive for Calvin Klein's Fall 2025 collection, as both thrilling and anxiety-inducing. Among her most cherished assignments are shooting a 'Self Service' cover with Ezra Petronio, a surreal experience working with Alasdair McLellan and Max Pearmain in the picturesque White Cliffs of Dover for 'Harper's Bazaar Italia', and an 'insane' collaboration with Steven Meisel, Karl Templer, and Fabien Baron for Zara Fall 2026, which coincidentally fell on Pat McGrath's birthday. The moment she truly felt her career had taken off was seeing her Ralph Lauren Fall 2025 campaign, photographed by David Sims, displayed on billboards across her hometown, a testament to her global reach.
When asked about her most prized wardrobe possessions, Klein highlights three key items: her much-loved, well-worn shearling Miu Miu boots, a collection of vintage bags including an old Chloé Paddington, a 2005 fur Chanel, and a 2006 patchwork Chanel, and her collection of Hysteric Glamour tees. For castings or go-sees, her preferred ensemble consists of vintage Dior heels paired with low-rise black pants and a comfortable white tank top, blending sophistication with effortless cool.
Surviving the demanding pace of Fashion Week, Klein jokingly credits 'Uber Eats' and quality time with friends as her secrets. If not modeling, she envisions herself deeply immersed in college studies while pursuing a creative career, possibly in design or creative direction, or even exploring her passion for music. Her ambition drives her, stating, 'I always need more than one thing to do. I hate being still, I like to be busy.' Looking ahead, now that she's 18, Klein dreams of collaborating with Chanel and Saint Laurent, working with revered figures like Hedi Slimane, and ultimately, gracing the cover of 'Vogue'.
