Prada is poised to reveal a significant metamorphosis of its inaugural retail space within Milan's renowned Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. This comprehensive eight-story development, aptly named Prada Galleria, will serve as a dynamic hub, seamlessly blending high fashion for both men and women, exquisite dining, curated art, and an unprecedented permanent exhibition dedicated to the brand's storied legacy. This ambitious undertaking not only honours Prada's rich history, which commenced over a century ago as Fratelli Prada, but also strategically positions its future narrative by delving into its foundational origins. The expansion seeks to provide an immersive experience that weaves together the brand's past, present, and future, inviting visitors on a journey through its evolution from a family enterprise to a global luxury powerhouse.

Prada's Grand Milanese Reimagining: A Fusion of Heritage and Innovation

On Tuesday, Prada will showcase its newly reimagined flagship store, a remarkable expansion of its original establishment in Milan's iconic Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. This historic location, where the brand began its journey in 1913 as Fratelli Prada, has been transformed into an expansive eight-floor complex. The new Prada Galleria will house dedicated sections for both women's and men's collections, offer unique culinary experiences, present artistic installations, and feature private hospitality. Notably, it will host the first permanent exhibition charting the brand's illustrious history, dubbed "Pradasphere."

The expansion connects several existing elements: the historic womenswear boutique is now linked to the menswear store via the intriguing "Passaggio Segreto," an underground passage designed to unveil hidden archival treasures. The uppermost floors continue to house the Osservatorio Fondazione Prada, dedicated to contemporary art. The renowned Milanese patisserie Marchesi 1824, acquired by Prada Group in 2014, is also integrated into this grand complex. From its humble beginnings with brothers Mario and Martino Prada, the brand has evolved into a global fashion empire, now led by Mario's granddaughter Miuccia Prada and her husband Patrizio Bertelli, who have driven its significant growth since the late 1970s. Lorenzo Bertelli, Prada Group's CMO and head of corporate social responsibility, emphasized the profound emotional investment of his parents, Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli, in this project. He highlighted that the expansion is not merely about retail, but about narrating the authentic family story and the continuity between the brand's founders and its modern-day innovators. The new vision aims to bridge the gap between Prada's celebrated contemporary identity and its lesser-known, yet equally significant, origins, challenging perceptions and fostering a deeper connection with its heritage. This initiative coincides with "Vogue World" hosting its 2026 event in the Galleria on September 22, further cementing the location's significance in the fashion world.

This ambitious undertaking by Prada represents more than just a store expansion; it is a profound declaration of identity and a strategic embrace of heritage as a cornerstone for future innovation. In an era where brands constantly seek authenticity, Prada's decision to meticulously curate and present its own narrative, from its earliest days to its contemporary influence, offers a compelling model. It suggests that a deep understanding and celebration of one's origins can provide a robust foundation for continued evolution, allowing a brand to remain relevant and forward-thinking without losing sight of its soul. This integrated approach, blending commerce, culture, and history, sets a new benchmark for luxury retail experiences, demonstrating that the past is not just a relic but a living, breathing part of a brand's enduring allure.
