The beloved G.I. Joe franchise is set to receive a fresh interpretation with a new film hitting theaters in 2028. This upcoming installment will be helmed by Danny McBride, who also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Jeff Fradley and John Carcieri. Bradley Cooper is confirmed to star as Duke, a central figure in the G.I. Joe universe. The project is backed by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, and Zev Foreman, representing Hasbro Entertainment.
Blumhouse Atomic and Paramount have announced a significant change for the next chapter in the "Paranormal Activity" series. Originally planned for a May release, the film, directed by Ian Tuason, will now premiere on October 22, 2027, aligning it with the Halloween season. This strategic move aims to capitalize on the holiday's thematic relevance for horror features. The production sees the return of franchise creator Oren Peli, alongside James Wan and Jason Blum as producers for Blumhouse Atomic, with Michael Clear and Judson Scott as executive producers, and Steven Schneider, Dan Slater, and Cody Calahan also contributing as executive producers.
The "Paranormal Activity" saga, which began with Oren Peli's groundbreaking found-footage original, has achieved remarkable commercial success, generating nearly $194 million globally from a modest budget. The series has expanded to seven films, collectively grossing over $900 million worldwide, cementing its status as a highly profitable horror property. The forthcoming film will feature Chase Yi, Sonia Mena, and Maya Da Costa in leading roles.
These scheduling announcements reflect Skydance's enhanced focus on maximizing its intellectual property following the merger of Paramount and Warner Bros. Under David Ellison's leadership, the combined studio is prioritizing its extensive catalog. This strategy is already visible with a new "Transformers" project in development, with Steven Spielberg serving as producer. The studio continues to work on sequels for popular franchises such as "Top Gun," "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," "Sonic the Hedgehog," and "Star Trek." Warner Bros. is also developing an "Ocean's 11" prequel, featuring Bradley Cooper and producer Margot Robbie, alongside additional "Lord of the Rings" films and a sequel to "Weapons" titled "Gladys." The overarching goal is to release 30 films annually, showcasing a robust and diverse cinematic slate.
