Blizzard Entertainment introduced a captivating new support hero named Doctrine at BlizzCon 2026, drawing inspiration from vampire lore. This latest addition to the Overwatch roster is designed with a high mechanical skill ceiling, promising depth for dedicated players. Doctrine's signature mechanic, "Infuse," allows for strategic power boosts to his weapon and other abilities during crucial moments, adding a fresh layer of tactical play. This character is poised to appeal to a wide range of players, from those who enjoy offensive healing roles to fans of characters like Reaper who find themselves in a support queue, and anyone with an appreciation for gothic aesthetics.

During BlizzCon, attendees had the opportunity to experience Doctrine firsthand, gaining insights into his complete set of skills. While his abilities do present a certain level of complexity, the initial impression is one of immediate fun and engagement. Doctrine's primary weapon, the Eternal Scepter, functions similarly to those of heroes like Ana, providing both healing for allies and damage to enemies, which streamlines his combat flow. This dual functionality is further enhanced by the 'Infuse' ability, which can amplify his shots for greater impact. His Shrouded Momentum serves as a mobility tool, reminiscent of Reaper's Wraith Form, while Invigorating Drones offer an alternative method for healing teammates.

Doctrine's passive ability, 'Survivor,' influences his movement, while his perks offer intriguing choices that can significantly alter his playstyle. At level 2, players can select between 'Saving Grace,' which provides an immediate heal upon drone application, or 'Sanguine Siphon,' which grants healing based on damage dealt with an Infused Eternal Scepter. Level 3 perks, 'Transfusion' and 'Cost of Life,' present even more strategic decisions. 'Transfusion' reduces the cooldown of 'Infuse' through damage and healing, while 'Cost of Life' sacrifices a portion of maximum health for increased Eternal Scepter healing. These choices require careful consideration, especially given the perceived lengthy cooldown of the 'Infuse' ability, making perk selection a critical element in the heat of battle.

Doctrine is currently available for a limited-time trial period, allowing players to familiarize themselves with his unique mechanics and playstyle. He is slated for an official release in Overwatch's upcoming Season 5, which is scheduled to launch in October. His introduction is expected to bring new strategic possibilities and team compositions to the game, offering a fresh experience for the Overwatch community.
