Nintendo is gearing up to launch an exclusive Switch 2 console and themed controllers, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the beloved Zelda franchise and the upcoming remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. This new collection of Zelda-inspired hardware is slated for an October 29 release, preceding the Ocarina of Time remake by one week. However, securing these highly sought-after items may prove challenging, as supplies are limited and anticipation for Nintendo's latest Zelda release is soaring.
Revealed during a Nintendo Direct presentation in September, the new Switch 2 console and controllers showcase a distinctive black, gold, and green color palette, paying homage to the series' hero, Link, and his Triforce of Courage. The console and its accompanying controllers are adorned with triangular decals surrounding a Triforce emblem and the Hylian Crest. While sold separately, purchasing the console grants access to a set of themed Joy-Con 2 controllers. Additionally, a special carrying case, screen protector, and a Pro Controller with a Hyrule Castle-decorated display stand will be available to complete the collection. Despite the enthusiastic reception, all pre-order items, including the $519.99 40th-Anniversary Edition console and the $109.99 Pro Controller with its display stand, have already been snapped up.
These Zelda-themed product launches coincide with Nintendo's recent decision to adjust the Switch 2's price to $499.99. This follows earlier price hikes in 2025 for the original Nintendo Switch and its Lite and OLED variations. These pricing changes are attributed to a global shortage of AI-driven components, affecting the broader gaming industry. Although some fans expressed dissatisfaction with increased costs for hardware not significantly more powerful than rival consoles, the introduction of special editions like this aims to mitigate the impact, with Nintendo proactively informing retail customers about the upcoming price adjustments. The Ocarina of Time Switch 2 remake is scheduled for release on November 5, with Nintendo having recently showcased 15 minutes of gameplay, demonstrating the Switch 2's capabilities in re-envisioning the world of Hyrule. Furthermore, filming for The Legend of Zelda movie, starring Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link, concluded in spring 2026, with rumors suggesting Sam Neill's final performance in an undisclosed role.
The convergence of technological advancement, artistic celebration, and strategic market adjustments exemplifies the dynamic nature of the entertainment industry. Nintendo's commitment to innovation and fan engagement, even in the face of economic challenges, highlights the enduring power of beloved franchises to inspire and unite communities. This new chapter in the Zelda saga invites enthusiasts to not only revisit a cherished classic but also to embrace the future of gaming with a sense of excitement and wonder. It's a reminder that passion and creativity continue to drive progress, offering rich and immersive experiences that transcend generations.
