Nintendo has officially communicated its plan to escalate the expenses associated with hardware repairs for both its Switch and Switch 2 systems within Japan. This revision will become active from November 16, 2026, affecting a wide range of repair services for these popular gaming devices.
The upcoming price modifications will specifically target key internal components such as the central processing unit (CPU) board and the liquid crystal display (LCD) unit. For example, the cost to repair a Switch 2 CPU board will jump from 27,500 yen to 37,400 yen, while a similar repair for the original Switch will see an increase from 16,500 yen to 26,400 yen. However, it's worth noting that repair costs for controllers and other accessories are not expected to change.
This is not the first time Nintendo has adjusted its repair pricing in Japan. A similar increase was implemented in March of the previous year, just months before the launch of the Switch 2. These repeated adjustments suggest a pattern of reassessing operational costs and market dynamics.
Nintendo has previously justified its price increases, including those for the consoles themselves earlier in 2026, by citing "changes in market conditions" and a broader "global business outlook." These factors likely continue to influence the company's decisions regarding repair service costs, aiming to align pricing with economic realities and business sustainability.
While the current announcement focuses solely on the Japanese market, there remains a possibility that similar price adjustments could be introduced in other regions worldwide. Consumers outside Japan are keenly watching for any further announcements from Nintendo regarding potential changes to repair costs in their respective markets.
