Capcom's Monster Hunter franchise has solidified its position as a global gaming phenomenon over the past two decades. While the company's attention is currently on its newest iteration, Monster Hunter Wilds, a recent announcement highlighted a remarkable sales achievement for its predecessor, Monster Hunter Rise.
As per official sales reports, Monster Hunter Rise, which first debuted as an exclusive for the Nintendo Switch in 2021, has now sold over 20 million copies worldwide across all available platforms. This impressive figure was significantly bolstered by the Sunbreak expansion pack and its subsequent release on Xbox and PlayStation consoles in 2023. To put this into perspective, Capcom's official data indicates that Monster Hunter World's base game had sold 22.40 million units as of June 30, 2026. Furthermore, Monster Hunter Wilds, launched in 2025, quickly amassed over 11 million unit sales earlier this year.
To honor this latest sales triumph, Capcom shared special commemorative artwork and extended its gratitude to the fan base. The message celebrated the 20 million unit sales of Monster Hunter Rise and encouraged new players to join the hunt, noting that the game is presently available at discounted prices across various digital storefronts. Fans can anticipate the launch of Monster Hunter Wilds for the Switch 2 in December of this year, with its expansion, Ascendance, slated for release in 2027.
This continued success of the Monster Hunter series is a testament to its compelling gameplay, immersive worlds, and dedicated community. Such achievements not only celebrate past triumphs but also pave the way for future innovations, fostering an environment where creativity and player engagement are continually prioritized. The gaming industry thrives on such robust franchises, which inspire both developers and players to push boundaries and explore new horizons within interactive entertainment.
