John Malkovich announced his decision to no longer participate in a scheduled performance of 'The Music Critic' in Tel Aviv, Israel. This event was part of a larger tour for a show he has been involved with for almost two decades, performed in numerous countries worldwide.
The primary reason for Malkovich's withdrawal was a press release, prepared by a public relations firm hired by the Israeli promoter, which included quotes falsely attributed to him. He emphasized that these statements were neither made nor approved by him and did not reflect his sentiments.
Malkovich expressed his strong disapproval of the unauthorized publication of these false quotes as direct statements from him, deeming the situation unacceptable. This breach of trust led to his decision to pull out of the Tel Aviv engagement.
