Ji.hlava Documentary Film Festival Showcases New Visions Forum Selections

The 30th Ji.hlava Documentary Film Festival, an event attracting approximately 1,200 industry professionals, has announced the projects chosen for its New Visions Forum.

From October 28 to 30, the Forum will showcase twenty-nine projects originating from fifteen different nations, offering these creative teams a vital platform to establish connections with potential partners for co-production, funding, sales, and distribution. This year's selection includes notable works from first-time directors, such as Lindsey Sitz with “Searching for SmarterChild,” Simantini Chakraborty presenting “Impossible to Ignore,” Ali Razi’s “Archiveless Memories, for an Imaginary Museum,” and Agnieszka Zwiefka’s “Words We Never Say.” Additionally, two alumni from the festival’s Emerging Producers program, Charlotte Heilstone from the U.K. and Matej Sotník from Slovakia, will unveil their latest endeavors. The geographical scope of the projects extends across Europe, the U.S., East Asia, and Southeast Asia, with a special emphasis on six upcoming works from Montenegro, recognized as this year's Country in Focus within Ji.hlava's industry program.

A prominent aspect of the Forum's selections is the emergence of recurrent narrative threads. These include explorations of memory, the role of archives, and themes pertaining to suppressed or silenced histories. Many films delve into the struggles of individuals confronting established power structures and systems, as well as the intricate interplay between personal experiences and broader historical trajectories. To further support these cinematic efforts, the Forum is enhanced by a comprehensive Matchmaking Accelerator program, designed to link selected projects with influential international decision-makers and various industry stakeholders.
