The much-awaited follow-up to the popular 'Jump Street' franchise, titled '24 Jump Street,' is gearing up for its theatrical debut. Originally reported as being in development earlier in the year, this third installment is expected to reunite lead actors Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, alongside Ice Cube. Rodney Rothman, known for his work on 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,' is set to direct, collaborating on the screenplay with Hill and Meghan Malloy. The original directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, will return as producers, ensuring the series' signature blend of humor and action remains intact.
Adding to the 2027 holiday lineup is Ridley Scott's ambitious adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic pirate tale, 'Treasure Island.' Hugh Jackman will take on a starring role in this cinematic retelling. The project, which was also announced in June, will see Scott at the helm, directing from a screenplay penned by Emmy-winning writer Jack Thorne. Scott will also produce the film under his Scott Free banner, with Thorne serving as an executive producer, promising a grand and immersive high-seas adventure.
Beyond these two tentpole releases, Sony Pictures has also revealed dates for several other films. Roshan Sethi's thriller, 'The Surgeon,' featuring Michelle Yeoh, is scheduled for April 2, 2027. The coming-of-age comedy 'Narcs,' starring Mason Thames and marking John Phillips' directorial debut, will arrive on August 20, 2027. Furthermore, some adjustments have been made to the studio's release calendar. Takashi Yamazaki's 'Grandgear' has moved up its release to January 14, 2028, from its original February 18, 2028, slot. Conversely, 'Helldivers,' a film based on the popular video game series, has been postponed from November 10, 2027, to June 9, 2028.
