Gigi Hadid's fashion brand, Guest in Residence, recently opened its fourth U.S. retail location, and its inaugural uptown New York City establishment, on Madison Avenue. The launch was marked by a festive "house party" atmosphere, drawing a distinguished crowd of close acquaintances, relatives, and significant individuals. This gathering not only commemorated a new chapter for the brand but also embodied Hadid's personal philosophy of creating inviting and communal spaces that reflect her brand's essence of warmth and familiarity.
The celebration on Madison Avenue was far from a typical store opening. Upon arrival, guests were greeted with an artistic display of pretzels shaped into the brand's initials, G, I, and R. Inside, a team of florists meticulously crafted bespoke floral arrangements, while a live three-piece ensemble provided a sophisticated soundtrack beneath the expansive skylight. A caricature artist was on hand, sketching portraits of guests who posed with enthusiasm and later compared their unique likenesses, adding a personalized and engaging element to the event.
Culinary delights were a highlight, with an abundance of caviar served in various forms, from classic blinis to modern pairings with potato chips and crème fraîche, and even as a luxurious topping on baked potatoes, a signature item from The Nines restaurant. Cocktails flowed freely, with martinis proving to be a popular choice. Hadid emphasized the collaborative effort behind the event, noting that the floral arrangements were expertly handled by Kelsie Hayes of Pop Up Florist, a longtime friend. The selection of dishes, especially the opulent potatoes, underscored the brand's intention to bridge its downtown origins with its new uptown presence, creating a cohesive and inviting experience.
Hadid shared that the creation of the Guest in Residence team was also a testament to her extensive network of friendships and professional relationships, some stretching back to her early days in the industry. This personal touch extended to the store's interior design, where each Guest in Residence location incorporates elements from places that hold special meaning to Hadid. The Madison Avenue boutique, for instance, evokes the cozy ambiance of a chic chalet, with pale wood paneling reminiscent of the Alps. This deliberate design choice aims to make visitors feel at home, prompting one guest to comment on the store's distinct French sensibility, a compliment Hadid graciously accepted.
The second floor of the store was thoughtfully designed to include a living room, bedroom, and dining area, offering a comfortable setting for private styling sessions and future workshops. Guests fully embraced the inviting environment, browsing books and engaging in board games, further enhancing the homely feel. The only missing element was a crackling fireplace, though the cashmere garments worn by many attendees rendered additional warmth unnecessary. Hadid's vision was to create spaces where people could relax, converse, and truly connect, fostering a sense of community around her brand.
Conversations flowed freely throughout the evening, reflecting the congenial atmosphere Hadid cultivated. A fashion publicist recounted his plans to bring Hadid his renowned cheesecake, while a model enthusiastically pointed out their mutual fitness coach. Jordan Barrett, having just arrived from a flight, joined the festivities, proudly displaying his vibrant polo shirt. He praised the brand's comforting essence, stating, "The first word that comes to mind when I think of this brand is 'cozy.'" Barrett also commended Hadid's ability to assemble such a warm and welcoming group, highlighting the genuine kindness and familiar faces that surrounded her. The presence of loyal customers, one of whom proudly showcased her new Guest in Residence denim, further underscored the brand's success and Hadid's deep appreciation for her clientele. She expressed immense fulfillment in seeing her designs worn by individuals with diverse styles, considering it the ultimate honor.
The celebratory evening concluded with the presentation of four distinct cakes, each symbolizing one of Guest in Residence's four successful stores. As the night wound down, the joyous discussions naturally spilled onto the bustling New York City sidewalks. Hadid, radiant with happiness, bid farewell to her guests, extending her gratitude as she made her way to a waiting car, famously carrying one of the celebratory cakes with her into the night, a literal and symbolic gesture of her role as the perfect host.
