Comprehensive Guide to Love and Marriage in Fields of Mistria

Initially, you'll encounter ten eligible individuals among the residents of Mistria. The game offers a wealth of dialogue, surpassing many other farming simulation titles, so engaging with everyone frequently—even multiple times daily—is key to understanding their personalities. Later in the storyline, two additional potential partners will emerge, often referred to as the "secret bachelor/ette" by the community.
Similar to other farming simulations, presenting gifts to characters helps you accumulate Friendship Points. You are able to give one present to each character every day. Utilizing a specialized guide for Mistria's potential spouses can expedite the process of earning points with each one.
To fully experience the romantic aspects of the game, it's crucial not to overlook the main narrative quests. Focusing on Adeline's town improvement projects is essential, as these unlock events such as the annual Shooting Star Festival date at the close of summer, a key romantic opportunity.
As you accumulate Friendship Points, you will unlock "heart event" scenes with each potential partner. These delightful story segments allow you to delve deeper into their lives. Upon completing these narratives, you can decide to either solidify a strong platonic bond or embark on a romantic relationship.
Once you achieve 8 hearts with a character, you can declare your affection and commence a romantic relationship. The game permits you to engage in multiple romantic relationships simultaneously without any negative repercussions, offering a unique opportunity to explore various connections.
Seriously, do not underestimate the importance of the main storyline! You'll face a significant obstacle when attempting to propose if you haven't dedicated time to exploring the mines. Reaching 8 hearts with both Eiland and Juniper, along with descending to level 100 of the mines, are mandatory prerequisites for proposing marriage.
Upon reaching 10 hearts with a dating partner, you can craft an engagement ring and proceed to marry them. The wedding celebrations in Mistria are remarkably detailed, providing a deeply satisfying experience for players who cherish romance in farming simulations. You'll have the opportunity to customize decorations, cuisine, and your attire, adding a personal touch to your special day. Furthermore, certain characters' family members may make memorable appearances, enhancing the celebratory atmosphere.
Here are some common inquiries regarding relationships in Mistria:
Is simultaneous dating an option? Absolutely! You can pursue romantic relationships with all 12 potential partners concurrently until you decide to propose to one.
Do partners express jealousy? No, characters will acknowledge your various romantic endeavors, but without any indication that they perceive you as being in multiple relationships.
Are there rival marriages? No, other potential partners do not form relationships with each other, regardless of your romantic status.
What about breakups? Breakup letters do exist, but NPCs only send these if you propose to someone else while already in a relationship with them. You can also disable these letters in the game settings.
Is divorce possible? As of now, divorce is not a feature in Mistria, so make your marital choice carefully!
How do I choose my spouse? That's a personal journey! Many players, like the author, find themselves with multiple saved games due to indecision.
Friendship points function as a measure of your bond with characters. You accumulate these points through conversations and gift-giving. Your journal's heart tab displays your current heart level and the progress bar for the next level. Friendship points are permanent; they do not decrease over time, and characters do not react negatively to unwanted gifts.
While all NPCs have friendship points, only potential spouses, marked as "single" in the relationship tab, have heart symbols and heart events.
Action | Points |
|---|---|
Daily Conversation | +7 points (once per day) |
Favorite Gift | +20 points |
Preferred Gift | +10 points |
Neutral Gift | +3 points |
Disliked or Hated Gift | +0 points |
Birthday Gift Bonus | +10 point modifier |
Inviting on a Date | +70 points* (approximate) |
It is estimated that dates provide approximately 70 friendship points, though this number is not officially confirmed and may be subject to change as more data becomes available. This bonus is considerably more significant than that from a cherished gift.
It's important to note that if you present an NPC with a gift after midnight on the in-game day preceding their birthday, they will react as if it's their birthday present. However, this does not grant the birthday gift friendship point bonus; the reaction is purely cosmetic.
Each character can receive one gift daily. Most items, including flowers, produce, ores, and cooked dishes, are acceptable presents. You can often deduce their preferences; for example, Celine favors flowers, March appreciates ores, and Balor is fond of expensive gems. Your relationships panel in the menu serves as a helpful reminder of their likes and dislikes.
There's no penalty for giving the same gift repeatedly, so you can efficiently raise Friendship Points by consistently offering an easily obtainable favorite item. An in-game achievement, "Thoughtful Gifter," rewards players for presenting every liked and loved gift to a single character. Characters display unique and often charming reactions to loved gifts, providing an incentive to discover all their preferred items.
Heart events are unique narrative scenes with potential spouses, triggered upon reaching heart levels 2, 4, 6, and 8. Once the required heart level is achieved, the character will send you a letter inviting you to a specific location. The details of these invitations can be found in your journal's quests section.
These events delve into each character's personal story, with each new scene building upon previous interactions. Heart events do not award friendship points, so your dialogue choices during these scenes are purely for role-playing purposes.
Heart Level | Total Friendship Points | Unlocks |
|---|---|---|
2 💙 | 180 | First heart event |
4 💚 | 390 | Second heart event, Shooting Star Festival date, Harvest Festival dance, Birthday letter with gift |
6 💛 | 705 | Third heart event |
8 🧡 | 1125 | Fourth heart event, enables dating |
10 ❤️ | 1755 | Can propose with an engagement ring, triggering a fifth heart event |
The friendship point totals shown are derived from the Fields of Mistria wiki and are not visible within the game. They serve as a reference for players interested in tracking their progress.
Key Exceptions:
Efficiency Tips:
Do not overlook the Shooting Star Festival! Attending with a partner involves an extended scene with dialogue choices, making it more akin to a heart event than other dates. These conversations significantly contribute to each character's romantic arc, so ensure you reach four hearts with your chosen partner to invite them. Following the festival, your date (and their close acquaintances) will reminisce about the experience, and subtle dialogue adjustments will appear in their 8-heart event if you shared the star-gazing with them.
It is essential to have unlocked the summit before the Shooting Star Festival to invite a date. This requires completing Adeline's town beautification quest, which becomes available after repairing the bridge, stocking the food stores, and restoring the mill. Make sure these tasks are completed before Summer 28.
You can initiate dating with any (or all) potential spouses once you've reached 8 hearts. During their 8-heart event, you'll choose between solidifying a close friendship or confessing your romantic feelings. To pursue a romantic relationship, you must confess your feelings; it's not possible to transition from best friends to dating later.
Upon confessing your feelings, Elsie will visit your home the following morning to guide you through the dating system. Essentially, dates can only occur on Saturdays and Sundays, and you can only take each individual on one date per weekend. After each successful date, you'll receive a commemorative photograph that can be displayed in your home.
Initially, a simple meal at the inn will be your only date option. However, you can discover or purchase other "date inspiration items" (unlocked in the same manner as cosmetic items). These items only become available after you've begun dating at least one person.
Date Type | Acquisition Method |
|---|---|
Inn Meal | Inn menu provided by Elsie during the dating tutorial |
Beach Outing | "Lovely seashell" found through fishing |
Deep Woods Picnic | Picnic set from Elsie via letter after unlocking the Deep Woods |
Gem Cutting Activity | Rough gemstone found in mine treasure chests |
Park Visit | Dollhouse bench found in dig spots on the eastern road |
Bathhouse Relaxation | Purchase bath soap from Wheedle's stall for 100,000 gold at the Saturday Market |
Shooting Star Festival | Invite a partner (with over 4 hearts) by giving them the Shooting Star Brooch from Elsie on Summer 28 |
Harvest Dance | Press the on-screen button to invite someone to dance during the festival |
On any Saturday or Sunday, approach a character you are dating and press the interaction button (the same one used for giving gifts) to invite them on a date. You will then select from your unlocked date activities, and they will briefly accept the invitation. Each date unfolds as a short, dialogue-free scene (unlike heart events) depicting you and your partner enjoying the outing.
Afterward, you'll receive a photograph of your date, capturing the time of day and setting. These photos can be hung as decor in your home and interacted with to revisit the image. You'll only acquire one unique photo per date type for each character, so consider the season before planning a park date in winter, unless that's your preferred aesthetic! Additionally, your date will present you with an item, such as a flower, gem, or meal, depending on the chosen activity.
You have the option to date all 12 potential partners in Mistria simultaneously. Simply reach 8 hearts and confess your feelings to each one—no judgment here, as the author can attest! Here's what you can expect:
Marriage proposals are possible once you've reached 10 hearts with a dating partner and have crafted an engagement ring. Elsie will provide you with the engagement ring recipe the morning after you achieve 10 hearts. Be aware that you must reach level 100 in the mines to craft the ring, so prioritize those quests!
You can initiate the proposal heart event by offering an engagement ring to a character you are dating with whom you have 10 hearts. During this scene, your partner will present you with a gift symbolizing their affection—March might forge a shield, while Ryis could give you a potted tree. You can reciprocate by selecting the red heart dialogue option to propose marriage. Alternatively, you can opt to postpone the conversation, returning later to initiate the scene again.
You can strategically initiate multiple wedding proposals by offering the engagement ring and then choosing to postpone the conversation. This allows you to collect all the unique proposal gifts from various characters before committing to one. The engagement ring recipe vanishes from your blacksmith station after a successful proposal, preventing you from crafting additional rings post-marriage.
The day after your proposal, your partner will express their excitement for the upcoming wedding. On three separate occasions leading up to the ceremony, they will solicit your input on wedding details. For each decision, all fiancés offer three choices: two standard options and one reflecting their personal preferences.
On your wedding day, your only responsibility is to enjoy the festivities. Rest assured, Elsie and Josephine will handle tasks like watering crops and feeding animals. However, you will lose an entire day, so it's advisable to avoid scheduling your wedding on a Friday or Saturday to prevent missing the market or a night at the inn. You might also want to avoid scheduling it on the same day as another NPC's birthday (or your own) to ensure you have the opportunity to give them a gift.
The morning after your wedding, Elsie will send you a letter containing furniture unique to your spouse as "wedding gifts." For instance, Juniper's gifts include a desk, cauldron, chair, and a bed for Dozy, while March's gifts consist of a desk, chair, and a forge station. You also receive a wedding photograph of your spouse, which can be displayed in your home alongside other date photos.
If you're dating multiple characters and choose to marry one, two scenarios can unfold: your other partners may end their relationships with you, becoming close friends instead, or you can continue to date everyone alongside your spouse. Unless you get engaged, NPCs will not autonomously break up with you, as friendship points do not decay if you neglect your partners for a period.
The game offers two toggles related to breakups in the "gameplay" section of the menu. Here's how the three possible configurations function:
By default, both breakup toggles are unchecked, meaning you will receive breakup letters. The day after your proposal, any other characters you were dating will send you a letter stating their desire to end the romantic relationship and remain friends. The next time you speak to them, they will inquire about your feelings regarding the letter. These interactions are generally bittersweet but conclude on amicable terms. In the relationships menu, your heart level with these characters will remain the same, but their status will change from "dating" to "best friends."
If you choose to disable breakup letters, any characters you were dating outside your fiancé will still transition to "best friends" status the day after your proposal. However, you will not receive a breakup letter or any dialogue pertaining to the termination of the relationship. This allows you to avoid the emotional sting of consequences while still maintaining friendships.
If you completely disable breakups, you will retain the "dating" status with all other characters you were romantically involved with. You can continue to take these characters on weekend dates, interact affectionately with them, and engage in daily conversations that acknowledge your relationship, even after you are married. Similar to dating multiple people, no one will reference your marital status while you are still dating others. This creates a scenario that is less about polyamory and more about a plausible deniability of non-monogamy.
