On July 10, 2026, Circle Internet Group (CRCL) proudly announced that it received final approval from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) to establish Circle National Trust. This crucial regulatory clearance allows the company to operate a national trust bank under direct federal oversight, ensuring adherence to stringent banking standards within the digital asset space.
This OCC license equips Circle with at least three core new functions: providing federally regulated fiduciary digital-asset custody, facilitating direct institutional custody, and managing USDC Reserves. These expanded capabilities enable Circle to offer services traditionally confined to large, established financial institutions, thereby bridging the gap between conventional finance and the burgeoning digital economy.
The announcement had a positive impact on Circle's stock performance. Clear Street noted a roughly 7% increase in CRCL shares during midday trading, attributing this rise to a previous undervaluation in the market and the long-term potential for new revenue streams. Clear Street analysts maintain a 'Buy' rating on the stock, setting a price target of $157, underscoring confidence in Circle's strategic direction and market position.
Upon its launch, Circle National Trust will initially provide fiduciary digital asset custody services to Circle and its affiliates. There are future plans to extend these specialized services to a select group of institutional clients, further solidifying Circle's role as a key player in secure digital asset management.
Echoing the positive sentiment, US Tiger analyst Bo Pei upgraded Circle Internet to a 'Buy' from 'Hold' with a $100 price target on July 8. Pei highlighted that concerns regarding stablecoin competition have been 'over-discounted,' suggesting that the market had unfairly penalized Circle despite its robust foundational progress and growth prospects.
