Arc Raiders, a prominent extraction shooter, has just launched its most substantial update since its release, dubbed 'Frozen Trail'. This new content aims to re-engage its player base and attract new enthusiasts. Following the update's deployment on October 8th, the game has already witnessed a notable increase in player engagement, a trend expected to continue as the game becomes temporarily free-to-play until October 12th.
Among the standout features of the 'Frozen Trail' update is 'Pendola Pass', a brand-new map set in a challenging frozen landscape. Players will face formidable new adversaries and heightened threats within this icy environment. To combat these dangers, two new weapons, the Bantam and the Stiletto, have been introduced. Additionally, players can now customize and amplify their existing weapon arsenal, giving them more strategic combat options.
The 'Frozen Trail' update isn't solely focused on intense combat; it also offers new avenues for relaxation and creativity. Players can now utilize a grappling hook for enhanced environmental navigation and a camera to capture stunning in-game moments. Furthermore, the update allows for extensive outpost customization, with hundreds of furniture pieces available through looting and upgrades, enabling players to design their unique home bases.
The 'Frozen Trail' patch notes are extensive, reflecting the update's massive scope. Key additions include new map conditions (Frigate & Redirection), new enemy types (Bully, Skulker, Hydra), amplified weapons, a redesigned skill tree, and a variety of new items such as the Tether Launcher and Yank Grenade. The update also introduces a research bench within the Outpost, lootable 'Design' items for crafting furniture, and significant improvements to the quest system, alongside 22 new quests.
The update also brings substantial changes to the game's progression system. The previous Legacy Pass has been replaced with the 'Frozen Trail Pass', which features both free and premium reward tiers, now requiring players to earn Reward Points. Additionally, players can gain XP by completing quests and milestones, facilitating faster leveling. To celebrate the update, Embark Studios is hosting a Twitch Drop event from October 8th to November 4th, offering exclusive in-game attachments for viewers.
Beyond the major features, several smaller but impactful changes have been implemented. The 'Solo vs. Squads' mode has been temporarily removed as developers evaluate its long-term viability. Players can now expand their stash size with two additional levels, reaching a maximum of 328 slots without bonuses. A highly requested feature, the ability to open the map while downed, has also been added, enhancing situational awareness during critical moments.
